I don't like to talk shit on other street artists but I have to admit that I never dug Skullphone's, uhm, skull phone. Though, I did have to give him mad props for hacking into ten of Clear Channel digital billboards in LA last week. Good thing I was slow on getting this news up on my blog because it looks like Skullphone actually paid Clear Channel for the space on their billboards. According to Clear Channel's Jennifer Gery and Tony Alwin Skullphone paid to have the billboards run for two days.
It is possible though that this is Clear Channel's attempt at damage control. Perhaps the company realizes now that their digital billboards can be hacked into and they fear similar attempts of billboard liberation. Then again it is also possible that Skullphone is a toy that paid the Babylon beast money to get his so called street art out there in a new way, thus giving himself mad cred.
I suppose the only way we'll really know the truth behind this story is if we see other artists perform similar hacks in the days and weeks to come.
